Water Soluble Boron (B) 9
CAUSES OF BORON DEFICIENCY:
Boron deficiency is mostly encountered in soils with high pH value and alkaline soils having an increased content of nitrogen and calcium (lime). Boron has a fairly limited mobility in plant. Boron deficiency is known to be the cause of numerous plant diseases.
SYMPTOMS OF BORON DEFICIENCY ON CROPS:
The symptoms seen in crops raised in soils with insufficient boron are;
* Stunted growth.
* Leaves and branches are brittle and are easily broken.
* Leaves were wrinkled, become thicker and develop a dark blue-green color.
* In severe cases of deficiency growing points die and growth is completely halted.
* Flower and fruit formation is inhibited.
APPLICATION METHOD AND TIMING:
For sprayed foliar application. Avoid applications under certain climatic conditions like dry weather, high humidity, frost, rainfall. Fruits: Elma, Pear, Quince application can be done when flower buds are visible and after petal fall. Peach, Cherry, Apricot, Plum; application is done after completion of leafing. Fertilizers can not be used in any during the full bloom stage. An optional post-harvest application can be done before the defoliation, considering the next year’s produce. Vegetables: Tomato; First application when the crop height reaches approximately 15 cm, second application 15 days after, Cabbages First application when the plants have 4-5 leaves, second application 7 days after; Onion and Garlic, When the plants have 2-3 leaves. Sugar Beet, Turnip, and Carrot: When the crop height reaches approximately 10-15 cm. Strawberry: Three applications required; first application before the beginning of developmental stage, second application at white bud stage and third application at the beginning full-bloom stage. Potato: First application on tuber formation, second application 10 days after. Citrus Fruits and Olive: After 80% of flowers fall. Vines: First application when flower buds are visible, second application at the fruit setting stage. Maize: When the plants have 4-10 leaves. Application ensures proper ear formation, increased pollination, high yield and early harvest. Sunflower: When the plants have 2-8 leaves. Hazelnut: Applied before flowering stage. Musk Melon - Water Melon: Applied before flowering stage.
